A fair amount of companies are gearing up for New York’s Toy Fair 2013, and many of them are producing toys kids will actually play with instead of collectables for adults. Here’s a quick preview of some of the recently announced Toy Fair products that your kids (and mine!) will get excited about.
NYC’s Mezco Toys has a superb lineup of brand partnerships for 2013 including Breaking Bad, South Park and classic Thundercats. In addition to those awesome names, they’ve got great toys suitable for younger ages. Pictured above is Mega Death Mittens, a 12-inch zombie feline from the third series of the Creepy Cuddlers line. What kid doesn’t want a cat who’s returned from the dead? Other Creepy Cuddlers plush animals include a penguin and teddy bear. These are excellent substitutes for boring, traditional stuffed animals.
Consider yourself warned: this summer, alien invaders are going to take over a toy store near you. The new Mars Attacks! 3.75″ martian action figures are hitting Earth shelves in July 2013. Your kid will find these figures to be pretty rad even if they haven’t read the original comic or seen Tim Burton’s film adaptation. Plus, they are the perfect size to intermix with their collection of Marvel, Star Wars and GI Joe toys.
Also from Mezco, the enormously popular Living Dead Dolls line will be adding a classic Dracula just in time for Halloween. If you are interested in grabbing alternative dolls for your little monsters, at 12″ with five points of articulation, Dracula and the other Living Dead Dolls are a great choice. Check out all the spooky kids at Living Dead Dolls.
The upcoming Man of Steel movie may be darker and grittier than DC’s previous iterations of the iconic superhero, but Lego fans of all ages will agree that the newly announced ‘Metropolis Showdown’ building set is kid-friendly movie tie-in. This is the smallest of the new Superman-themed Legos and will include two minifigs, something I know my son will be super-glad to hear.
Star Wars fans of all ages will be excited to hear that Hasbro is releasing a new set of action figures based on characters from the influential films in a bigger, six-inch size. Their more realistic look and greater articulation gives them the quality collectors want and the playability kids need. The Black Series of figures will primarily focus on the original trilogy, with a few toys from the prequels. The first set of four, retailing for $19.99 each, includes Luke Skywalker in his X-Wing suit, R2-D2, an Imperial Sandtrooper and Darth Maul.

Kids who love the Cartoon Network show Ben-10 will no doubt squeal with delight when they strap on Bandai’s new Omni-Link Omnitrix. It looks just like Ben’s! Mini-fans can use their new watch device to use apps, play online games, and watch videos. They can also view the DVD that’s included with the wearable toy. If nothing else, they’ll have a ball playing with the 12 onboard alien voices and 20 sound effects. It even lights up and vibrates.
