Tagsearly elementary, tween, Yu-Gi-Oh!
Based on the television show that’s based on the popular trading card game, the Yu-Gi-Oh! Movie is inherently a bit confusing, especially if you’re unfamiliar with the source card game.
The plot starts off much like one would expect: a Yu-Gi-Oh! tournament is underway. The protagonists, Yugi and company, compete in the contest with the intention of winning against their arch rival, Seto Kaiba. And then, the weird stuff happens. We discover that an ancient Egyptian sorcerer, supposedly resurrected from the dead, has been using said rival as a means to an end: the destruction of the world. I don’t know why evil bad guys are so intent upon destroying the world. It seems like it would be difficult to revel in the victory of their dastardly deeds if they and the rest of the world have gone up in smoke. Perhaps it is best to not question these kinds of things.
The movie is fast paced, exciting, and great for keeping the little ones preoccupied. That said, the plot and especially the fight sequences rely heavily on a working knowledge of the card game, so if you have not yet initiated your young’ens, then this movie may be too much for them to follow.
